Stimulant Medication and Tics

My 8-year-old son developed a tic on his eighth birthday. At the time he was on a stimulant drug or ADHD. Changing his medication to a non-stimulant drug appeared to work for about two months, but now the tic is coming back. Is this just to be expected, or is there something else I can do?
