Obama Asks Doctors To Back Reforms
President Barack Obama is seeking the support of doctors for health care reform proposals. He spoke June 15 at the annual meeting of the American Medical Association. The Associated Press wrote about the speech. Obama said the current system could bankrupt the country. He said doctors should be able to focus on treating patients, not paperwork. He expressed sympathy for doctors who feel they are constantly looking over their shoulders in fear of lawsuits. But said he did not support limits on malpractice awards. He said “excessive defensive medicine” could be reduced in other ways.
