Nerve Stimulation and Back Pain
A new guideline says that a common form of electrical stimulation does not help long-term back pain. The same group said that the treatment â called TENS, for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation â does work for pain related to diabetes. TENS involves a small, battery-operated device that sends low-voltage current through the skin. The American Academy of Neurology published the guideline December 30. It appears in the journal Neurology.
