What does euphoria mean in the medical dictionary?

Euphoria simply refers to an elevated mood.  However, the word is often used to describe someone’s exaggerated, intense, or abnormally heightened sense of happiness.  People with bipolar disorder are often described as having euphoria in the manic phase of their illness.  Recreational drugs, like amphetamines, cocaine, and MDMA, can also induce euphoria.
